Last week was English Wine Week, which is a celebration of the outstanding wines being made in the UK and a chance for vineyards to share and promote everything they have to offer visitors.
East Sussex is one of the best and more important winemaking areas in the country and is now home to the newly launched Wealden Wine Trail, a collection of wineries and vineyards welcoming visitors and offering tastings and tours.
The trail aims to raise awareness of the superb vineyards throughout Wealden, there 12 vineyards on the trail, which can be visited in any order.
Last Thursday some of the wine producers joined Oz Clarke on a virtual wine tasting, the event was watched by a mix of members of the wine trade and interested consumers. Attendees had the option to just log in and watch, or have tasting samples of the wines sent to them, so they could taste along with Oz and the producers.
We were delighted to be a part of this wine tasting, Helen chatted with Oz about the story behind the the vineyard and the history of Lime Cross, Oz then tasted the Secret Vineyard Rosé, which he loved !
Oz Clarke is one of the leading experts on English wine, having written two books on the subject and says: “The new Explore Wealden Wine Trail stretches from the Ashdown Forest in the High Weald right down to the thrilling Seven Sisters chalk cliffs in the south. East Sussex is a beautiful county full of variety and fascination and this new wine trail will show it at its very best – so please use it!!”
